In the footsteps of the young Rembrandt

Rembrandt van Rijn was born in Leiden on July 15th 1606. He spent his youth there, went to school and was trained as a painter. After a short apprenticeship in Amsterdam he returned to his city of birth to establish himslef as a fullfedged painter. Seven years later, in 1631, he left for Amsterdam for good. In the footsteps of the young Rembrandt will show the city of Leiden in Rembrandt's youth.

The Rembrandt Trail starts from the Rembrandt Reception Hall. The Rembrandt trail is a selfguided walk joining up all authentic Rembrandt locations in the inner city of Leiden. The Rembrandt trail takes the visitor past Rembrandt's birthplace, his master Jacob van Swanenburgh's studio and the Latin School, which Rembrandt attended. You will find theme boards along the route with information in Dutch and English. The Rembrandt city walk is available at the Tourist Information Office (VVV) store and costs € 2.95.
